Around The Courts: Standout Players, Summer Camp, and a Juneteenth Celebration at Play Tennis Gainesville

There’s a lot to celebrate at Play Tennis Gainesville this month. May brought standout performances across every level of our programming, and June is shaping up to be a memorable mix of tennis and community. From Summer Camp to a Juneteenth picnic, here’s what’s coming up on our courts.

Junior & Adult Tennis Highlights

May spring programming continued to operate as usual, with strong turnout across our adult drill clinics and point play sessions. A special shout out to Wes Holston and Yuki Shigemoto for their dedication to early morning point play workouts. Congratulations also to our class standouts: Elvis Gutierrez and Sooyeon Park in the Beginner Class, and Kristine Roque and Daniel Araujo in the Intermediate Class.

On the junior side, our development programs continued across every level, from Tiny Toons (Red Ball) all the way up to High-Performance Yellow Ball 2. Big shout outs go to Alex Barllett, our Most Improved Player for the month, and to PTG’s own Calum Greaser, who finished runner-up in our PTG Level 6 May Tournament. Great work to both!

Looking ahead, regular adult programming continues on June 1, and our Summer Camp runs June 8 through July 31, giving juniors a full season of high-quality instruction and on-court fun. Competitive players can also mark their calendars for the Play Tennis Gainesville Classic L6 Tournament on June 20–21.

Facility Update

We’re excited to invite the whole community to our Juneteenth Celebration Community Picnic on Friday, June 20, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM. It’s going to be a great chance to gather, celebrate, and enjoy good food and company alongside the tennis community. We hope to see you there!

Coaches Tip of the Month

Three rules to remember when playing tournaments: First, have fun. If it’s not fun, you won’t want to keep doing it. Second, work hard. It always pays off in the long run. And third, play smart. The smart player is the one who keeps improving, and when you focus on smart play, winning takes care of itself.
