Summer has officially wrapped at Play Tennis Gainesville, and what a season it’s been. July brought the final stretch of camp, standout tournament performances, and a well-earned round of applause for our coaches and staff who kept the momentum going all summer. Now the focus shifts to a new season, with Fall Programming officially underway. Here’s a look at what’s been happening on our courts and what’s ahead.
Junior & Adult Tennis Highlights
Our summer programming officially concluded in July, and it’s been a rewarding stretch across every corner of the PTG community. Adult drill clinics and point play sessions stayed active right through the end of the month, and a huge thank you goes to all PTG coaches and staff for the dedication and effort that made this summer session such a success!

On the junior side, our Summer Camp officially wrapped up on July 31. Big congratulations to Kaiya Thompson, our Most Improved Player for the month of July, keep up the great work! We also want to recognize PTG’s own Sam Dirain (Consolation Runner-up) and Bella Freeman (Consolation Semi-finalist) for representing PTG well at the Boys and Girls 16u Gainesville Level 5 Summer Smash Tournament on July 18–19. Thank you to all the PTG players who participated!
Fall PTG Programming officially starts August 3, and we’re excited to welcome players back for a fresh season of clinics, development, and match play across every level. Adult drill clinics and point play resume on their regular weekly schedule.
We also want to give a big shout out to Coach George and Coach Ken, who traveled to Lake Nona from July 31 through August 1 to spearhead a two-day warm-up clinic in conjunction with the ATA National Tournament. They represented USTA Florida and PTG proudly, and we’re grateful for the work they’re doing to grow the game beyond our own courts.

Upcoming junior tournaments to mark on your calendar: the PTG Level 6 (Boys and Girls, 12–18) on August 8. It’s a great opportunity for competitive juniors to get in strong match play right here at home.
Facility Update
No major facility updates this month, but we’re excited to see everyone back on court as Fall Programming gets underway. Stop by, say hello to the coaches, and let’s make this fall season the best one yet at PTG.
Coaches Tip of the Month
From Coach Ken: “In doubles, down the middle solves the riddle!” When you’re not sure where to hit in doubles, the middle is almost always the right answer. Down-the-middle shots take away the angle from your opponents, create confusion between the two players about who should take the ball, and reduce your own margin for error. Simple, effective, and a great habit to build into your doubles game.
