Welcome back Play Tennis Gainesville players! June was a memorable month at PTG, with Summer Camp underway, a successful Juneteenth picnic, and standout performances across every level of programming. July brings more tournament play, a holiday closure, and the final stretch of Summer Camp. Here’s a look at what’s been happening on our courts and what’s ahead.
Junior & Adult Tennis Highlights
June summer programming ran smoothly across both our adult and junior offerings. Our adult drill clinics and point play sessions continued their strong turnout, and a big thank you goes to our weekend adults, whose consistent support helped make our Junior L6 Tournament a success. Our Juneteenth Community Picnic on June 20 was a wonderful gathering, with adults and youth from across the community coming out to celebrate together.

On the junior side, Summer Camp launched on June 8 and has been off to a fantastic start, and our PTG Level 6 Summer Junior Tournament ran June 20–22 with strong competitive turnout. Congratulations to Ricardo Toa, our Most Improved Player for June, and to PTG’s own Sam Dirain, who took home the win in the Boys 16u division of the PTG Level 6 June Tournament. Great work to both!
Summer Camp is still going strong and there’s still time to sign up before it concludes on July 31. Whether your junior is looking for daily instruction, match play, or just a fun way to stay active this summer, we’d love to have them join us for one of the remaining weeks.
Looking ahead, we want to give a special shout out to Hunter Eskew for his continued program support, enthusiasm, and for helping welcome new students into PTG classes. His energy is exactly what keeps our community growing. Competitive juniors can also mark their calendars for the Gainesville Summer Smash L5 Girls 18s on July 18.
Facility Update
Please note that PTG will be closed on the 4th of July. Wishing everyone a happy Independence Day and safe travels to those hitting the road for the holiday. We’ll see you back on court soon after!
Coaches Tip of the Month
Remember, practice doesn’t make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect. Every rep is a chance to reinforce good habits or bad ones, so bring focus and intention to every ball. The players who improve the fastest aren’t necessarily the ones who hit the most balls, they’re the ones who make every ball count.
